Jay first started building homes on Vinalhaven as teenager when the going rate $4 an hour. His uncle was the island’s main general contractor, and he showed him the ropes. All of ‘em. He’s also worked as a lobsterman, a realtor, and a house-flipper before returning to his roots as a full-time home builder. You won’t find a more authentic Mainer.
He’s owned and operated Downeast Homes for close to 20 years now, during which time he also served as the varsity girls’ basketball coach at Camden-Rockport High School. He has become well-known in the local community for the trusted relationships that come about from doing work. There’s a lot that goes into earning such a great reputation; attention to detail, responsiveness, and the highest-caliber service provided before, during, and long after the keys are handed over.
